Started in 2007, ECP operates in under-resourced schools in Cape Town. Working with children and teachers, our holistic education programmes focus on life-skills, wellness and the environment. ECP aims to inspire a new generation of confident, conscious and responsible young leaders.ECP works across 8 schools in Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill, reaching over 3500 children and 80 teachers every week. We run a variety of Programmes from yoga classes, eco clubs, leadership training, holiday programmes, teacher training workshops and more.
The Earthchild Project is seeking to appoint two new board members. We are particularly interested in attracting suitable candidates with either finance, governance, HR or fundraising skills at a senior level.
Board members are expected to attend four board meetings a year, and to stay abreast of life within the organisation between board meetings. Board members will also be invited to join occasional team meetings to build relationships with the operational team. In addition, individual advice and input may be sought for specific ad hoc or urgent matters.
Our board meetings are held in Cape Town on week days but members are able to join the meetings online if they reside elsewhere or are unable to make the meeting in person.
The roles are unpaid voluntary positions.
- Commitment to the vision and objectives of ECP
- Personal interest in one or more of our focus areas (environment, yoga, healthy living, leadership)
- Willingness to act as an ambassador for ECP and to promote its work in their personal capacity
- Willingness to fulfil their duties with integrity, honesty and passion
- HR background/experience
- Finance or accounting or auditing background/experience
- Governance or compliance background/experience
- Fundraising background/experience
- Management experience at senior level
- Board or non-profit background/experience
