Meeting Their Mandates: A Critical Analysis of the South African Media Statutory Bodies is a 260-page book that that presents research reports into the performance of the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), as well as the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA).

Conducted by the Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI), Gender Links, the Media Monitoring Project (MMP) and the National Labour and Economic Development Institute (NALEDI), with the support from the Open Society Foundation for South Africa (OSF-SA), the book outlines recommendations on how these institutions can overcome the challenges they face. In addition, the report also begins to explore how these institutions established to facilitate freedom of information and expression can be held accountable to the South African public.
