Join the Class of 2022 – A Postgraduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS Management in the World of Work – The Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management, Stellenbosch University

Thursday, 21 October, 2021 – 16:19

Stellenbosch university’s Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management, calls on  candidates to join the class of 2022 for a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in HIV/AIDS Management in the World of Work. Since 2001, the centre has successfully facilitated learning experiences for more than 4,300 students from diverse professional and academic backgrounds. These include community activists, professionals from private corporations, development, non-governmental organizations, and government departments across 41 countries.

The PgDip programme is strategically designed to engender critical reflections and innovative solutions related to the management of HIV/AIDS in the world of work. A set of six comprehensive courses are strategically packaged and cover an overview on the status of HIV/AIDS and its impact on the economy, labour, socio-cultural aspects, HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy, health literacy on the prevention and care for people living with HIV, management in the era of HIV/AIDS, with considerations on ethics and social responsibility. Lastly, a course on research, monitoring and the evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes encourages an evidence-based approach to HIV/AIDS management and programme design.

The centre prioritizes social impact as a by-product of academic learning. The same is mirrored by graduates of the PgDip, who continue to excel and contribute to their respective world of work, and communities. Others proceed to enrol in the MPhil or PhD also offered at the centre. Mother and daughter, Mary Mataranyika and Patsva Madzokere – both living and working for the Ministry of Health in Namibia – are proud graduates of the PgDip. Reflecting on their experience, Mary, who is responsible for all laboratories in Namibia, and Pharmacist daughter Patsva, shared “the PgDip in HIV/AIDS management has really opened our eyes to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. It’s possible to actually plan an intervention that can be successful. Assessing the impact that HIV has had in our communities has been made easy with this training.”

To join many like Mary and Patsva, apply for the PgDip in HIV/AIDS Management by 31 October 2021.
