Andrew Miller, CEO of Project Literacy, tells Business Day that the NGO used to receive millions in donor funding prior to 1994, but in 1994 donors started funding the South African government rather than NGOs. Now only 20% of the organisation’s income is provided by donors — a vast change from its earlier complete reliance on donor-funding.
