Hivos - Humanist Institute for Cooperation in full, in Dutch: Humanistisch Instituut voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking, is a Dutch organisation for development co-inspired by humanist values. Hivos provides financial and political support to over 800 partner organisations in over 30 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and South-Eastern Europe.
 
The Regional Office for Southern Africa of Hivos promotes economic and social empowerment of poor and marginalized people in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi and Zambia.
 
Hivos Southern Africa seeks to appoint a Projects Officer - Media & ICT, based at the regional office in Harare, Zimbabwe.
 
This is a short term, full-time contract.
 
As a member of the global Expression & Engagement team liaising with the Programme Officer and reporting to the Regional Director, the projects officer contributes constructively and positively to the overall and regional Hivos policies in the field of Media and ICTs. The job involves positioning Hivos in the region in line with its’ policies; initiates and coordinates innovative and creative programmes and initiatives that contribute to freedom of expression and accountability objectives, forges strong relationships and builds supportive networks with relevant stakeholders and takes responsibility for the administration and management of the project partner portfolios.
 
The person is expected to be passionate about freedom of expression and citizen engagement without being dogmatic. You should be familiar with the impact of media and other public forums on accountability and good governance issues. You understand the ICT sector in the region and are aware of developments within the same sector You are entrepreneurial and you have strong communication skills. You are a good networker with a proven ability to mobilize your network in support of the programme objectives. You are well respected in your community of practice, a team player, flexible and open minded. You are self-disciplined and do not shy away from administrative tasks as part of your responsibilities.
 
Requirements: 

  • Level of professional and analytical ability: higher professional qualification(First Degree)  in media and communications or diploma in ICT;
  • Relevant work experience: two to three years;
  • Experience in database management and thorough knowledge of computer programs;
  • Good written and spoken command of English;
  • Affinity with development cooperation;
  • Excellent organisational, writing, analytical and administrative skills;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Entrepreneurial skills;
  • Ability to work to and meet tight deadlines;
  • Experience of managing multiple priorities and working across a range of tasks;
  • Knowledge of ICTs and how tech hubs work;
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm and ability to work under own initiative.
