Arise Children's Ministry believes that God desires families for children and that a loving, supportive, stable family environment is a tangible expression of God’s dream come true. The Ministry ultimately desires to see every child being raised in such a Christ-centred environment. It works with child and youth care centres, churches, and families in Cape Town to promote foster care and adoption for children without a family structure with the aim that every child might have a family.

Arise Children's Ministry seeks to appoint a Social Worker, based in Heideveld, Cape Town.

The person will lead its permanency programme and deliver some therapeutic support to clients.

Responsibilities:

The social worker is responsible under the Director’s supervision for conducting the day to day implementation and management of all activities pertaining to the development of the permanency programme:

  • Implement awareness and understanding of foster care and adoption in local churches;
  • Develop and manage family support programme for children and parents in foster, adoptive and reunified families;
  • Recruit, train and supervise family support workers throughout development of the programme;
  • Participate in continual monitoring and evaluation processes.

Delivery of therapeutic Interventions and family support: The social worker is responsible for working alongside the therapeutic programme coordinator to develop and implement all activities pertaining to therapeutic support:

  • Participate in on-going professional training and supervision;
  • Assist in coordinating and managing intake and waiting lists;
  • Deliver therapeutic support to clients;
  • Participate in continual monitoring and evaluation processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of social work (Master’s degree in therapy or supervision is desirable);
  • Registration with the SACSSP;
  • Minimum of five years experience including child protection and therapeutic support (statutory work desirable);
  • Creativity, strategic thinking, project management, and leadership skills;
  • Fluency in English and Afrikaans. Knowledge of isiXhosa is desirable;
  • Mature Christian with vibrant faith, adhering to Arise's statement of faith and values.

Starting date: 1 January 2013.

Salary: A salary commensurate with experience will be offered.
