The Goedgedacht Trust, established in 1993, is a farm-based community support organisation situated in the Swartland region of the Western Cape. Goedgedacht, the Cape Dutch farm that is home to the Trust, dates from the early 18th century and lies on the slopes of the Kasteelberg, some 85km north of Cape Town.Since 2016 the Care for the Planet Programme has focused on using small scale organic food gardens as a tool for social transformation. The gardens are not an end in themselves but a means to an end which is social change. We have seen a radical increase in the number of gardens from 193 when we started in 2016 to 2563 at the end of 2019

The Goedgedacht Trust seeks to appoint a Manager – Care for the Planet Programme to be based in Western Cape.
 
The main purpose will be to manage the Care for the Planet Programme to achieve its annual strategic objectives and funder obligations; providing oversight, operational direction and guidance to the Care for the Planet team.
 
Since 2016 the Care for the Planet Programme has focused on using small scale organic food gardens as a tool for social transformation. The gardens are not an end in themselves but a means to an end which is social change. We have seen a radical increase in the number of gardens from 193 when we started in 2016 to 2563 at the end of 2019
 
Requirements:

  • Tertiary education in related fields are desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leadership / management in the agricultural sector
  • Proficient in MS: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in project management and Agro-ecology
  • Language Proficiency:
  • English and Afrikaans (Speak, read, write)
  • isiXhosa (speak) not compulsory but ideal
  • Valid driver’s license (EC + PDP)

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the Care for the Planet programme
  • Integration with other Goedgedacht departments
  • Project documenting and reviewing
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of the Care for the Planet programme
  • Liaise with Monitoring and Evaluation coordinator
  • Manage financial resources to ensure the objectives of the programme is achieved
  • Develop annual programme budget, including project budget for fundraising proposals
  • Participate in marketing initiatives
  • Foster professional funder relationships
  • Maintain professional relations with stakeholders and partners
