NIMART Nurses (X2)
South Africa Partners, a non-profit organization, seeks to appoint two NIMART Nurses to be based in the Eastern Cape (East London) and Free State (Bloemfontein) Department of Correctional Services Management Areas to oversee and coordinate clinical activities.

Purpose of the Role
Working under the direction of the National Programme Manager (NPM), the NIMART Nurse will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of Regional Clinical Programme activities, including, but not limited to inmate HIV Testing and Counselling, ART & PrEP treatment initiation, treatment adherence, quality improvement, clinical mentorship and training and liaison with DCS Health staff. Close cooperation and collective planning with the SA Partners Prevention team in the Region will be key to the success of this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordination of HTS activities
- Assist the NPM with the development, coordination, and implementation of facility interventions as guided by the Regional work plan;
- Establish and maintain good working relations with DCS Management Area and Health Department staff, offenders and other Partner NGOs and CBOs for effective implementation of the work plan;
- In collaboration with Prevention Regional Coordinators, plan and coordinate the implementation of HTS Programme activities;
- Supervise, mentor and support Prevention Support Counsellors (PSCs) on HTS activities;
- Represent the organisation and participate in Management Area and Regional Meetings as needed.
- Implement Programme strategies to support the initiation of newly diagnosed inmates onto treatment, including:
- Obtaining medical history and conducting physical examinations;
- Performing phlebotomy activities;
- Implementing Safe Same Day ART initiations (SSDART) \ Universal Test and Treat (UTT);
- Dispense ARV treatment and other related medication as per assessment and diagnosis;
- Identify high risk inmates and initiate on PrEP;
- Implement Programme strategies to ensure positive health outcomes through treatment adherence and viral load suppression by:
- Monitoring patients on treatment, monitoring Viral Load, and managing accordingly;
- Monitoring ARV Rx adherence and educating on lifestyle modifications,
- Monitoring side effects of treatment;
- Managing the referral of patients for further investigations (e.g. x-rays, sonars etc.);
Supervision and Mentorship
- Orientate, induct, supervise and mentor PSCs and other Regional staff as needed;
- Conduct supervisory and support visits to facilities;
- Conduct monthly briefing sessions with the PSCs and other Regional staff as needed.
Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement & Monitoring and Evaluation
- With support from the NPM, develop, monitor and review Regional Programme performance activities and components using programme dashboards;
- Monitor Regional performance against set targets and work with the Training and Quality Improvement (TQI) team to develop improvement plans;
- Support the implementation of Clinical Training and Quality Improvement plans at Regional and site level.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing is an essential requirement;
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council is an essential requirement;
- Must be a NIMART Trained Nurse with a valid Dispensing License;
- At least 5 years’ experience in the field of HIV and AIDS programming, public health and/or the NGO sector, ideally in the area of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support in South Africa;
- At least 3 years’ experience in ART initiation;
- Knowledge and experience in working with Key Populations (MSM, Inmates, WSW and PWIDS);
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with DCS and/or other government agencies.
Skills and additional Competencies:
- Knowledge of USG/CDC/USAID funding rules;
- Experience working independently and in a team;
- Exceptional interpersonal and supervisory skills; capable of directing and managing change, inspiring teamwork, and motivating partners to achieve results;
- Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office suite;
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and ability to analyze and present data in a highly organized manner;
- Quick learner and self-starter with ability to take initiative and work in a start-up and team-oriented environment;
- Strong work ethic and ability to prioritize and multi-task;
- Driver’s licence is an essential requirement;
- Travel up to 80% within South Africa.
- Be able and willing to do other tasks as required from time to time.
