MeCAHT is an international, faith-based, media-driven coalition, working to reduce the incidences of trafficking in persons among vulnerable groups in South Africa, Nigeria and Europe and we are based in Cape Town.

MeCAHT exists to support the current government and private sector efforts as we consolidate on the gains of democracy and anti-human trafficking policy. The Organisations approach has been to bring anti-trafficking media enlightenment campaigns and training to high-risk and vulnerable areas. MeCAHT has come face to face with the stark realities of unemployment and a high level of ignorance regarding trafficking.

MeCAHT offers the first of its kind Reintegration Center for survivors of Human Trafficking as well as At Risk persons. The Organisation provides skills development on our Sustainable Freedom Project for survivors. 

MeCAHT also provides awareness and advocacy for and on behalf of victims and survivors as well as the hosting of the Annual International Anti-Trafficking ConferenMeCAHT is calling for nominations to select five new members to join the Board of Media Campaign Against Human Trafficking bringing the Board’s total to ten. Board members are expected to protect the best interests of the beneficiaries of MeCAHTs work and to promote our vision, mission and values.

In terms of our Constitution, members serve in a voluntary capacity. Currently, the Board consists of 4 members, 1 advisory member and our International Director. MeCAHT is focused on the strengthening of governance.  The Board meets face to face at 4 times a year, with special ad hoc meetings when and if required and at the Annual General Meeting.

Roles and Responsibilities

Members of the Board are expected to assume the following responsibilities:

  • Be available to participate in face-to-face Board meetings 4 times a year, as well as the ad hoc special meetings and to attend the Annual General Meeting;
  • Provide strategic input into MeCAHT priorities, strategies, reports, evaluations and other activities to be determined by the Board;
  • Identify funding opportunities and promote MeCAHT with potential funders/volunteers/international volunteers;
  • Facilitate dialogue and promote collaboration between MeCAHT and international, regional, national and local partners, funders, donors etc.
  • Participate actively in the pre-selection of committee members.
  • Serve on sub-committees based on skills.

Competencies for Members

  • An understanding and personal commitment to MeCAHT vision, mission and values. Visit website
  • Knowledge of the issues around Human Trafficking, migration, human rights, advocacy, law, finances, fundraising and strategic planning.
  • Fluent in English and one other South African language.
  • Involvement/experience in working with civil society organisation’s will be an added advantage.

Selection of Members

  • A panel comprising of Board members and senior management will be appointed to manage applications and interview prospective members.
