Philani Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition Project is a community based NGO (change to non-profit), operating in the informal settlements surrounding Cape Town and in the rural OR Tambo district of the Eastern Cape. Two maternal and child health research projects are currently being run by Philani in the Eastern Cape: Zithulele Births Follow up Study (ZiBFUS) and Zithulele Mother-to-Be Assessment (ZiMBA).

Philani seeks to appoint a Research Coordinator, based in Zithulele, Eastern Cape.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and ensure the quality of the two research projects in the Eastern Cape, manage team of eight data collectors and two drivers
  • Manage, support and supervise the eight data collectors and two drivers
  • Plan and ensure timely follow ups of all mothers and children participating in the research
  • Monitor and ensure the quality of data collected by data collectors
  • Ensure that the equipment used for data collection, such as mobile phones and the software Mobenzi are kept up to date and accurate
  • Assist in drawing stats and analyse data
  • Compile and submit monthly and yearly reports for donors as well as other stakeholders
  • Project manage various new developments within the programs
  • Take responsibility for all Human Resources issues including appraisals, contract renewals, performance development plans, disciplinary actions and tracking leave
  • Manage and monitor petty cash and submit reconciliations
  • Build capacity and skills of the team through the organisation of continuous in-service training
  • Ensure that good relations are maintained with community structures, clinics, hospital, other NGOs as well as other stakeholders such as Stellenbosch University

Requirements:

  • Degree in Health, Social Work or Development
  •  Microsoft programmes and IT skills
  • Experience working for an NGO
  • Experience working within a research setting
  • A Valid driver’s license
  • Honesty and integrity
