Steve Biko Foundation
Established in 1998, the Steve Biko Foundation is a community development organisation inspired by the legacy of the late anti-apartheid activist.
The Foundation seeks to appoint an Art and Culture Administrator, based at the Steve Biko Centre, in the Ginsberg Township of King William’s Town, Eastern Cape Province.
The person will assist in facilitating its internal and external arts programming. As a member of the Steve Biko Centre Performing Arts team, the incumbent will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams at SBF and with external stakeholders. The position reports to the Arts and Culture Programme Manager.
The Arts & Culture Programme Administrator will organise activities and services which support the Arts and Culture department of the Centre, including both in-house projects and external initiatives. This position incorporates a number of functions from marketing and managing performers and audiences, to finance and front of house management. This work will involve:
- Planning and organising event logistics including venues, performers/artists and other personnel;
- Working to secure funding in concert with SBF’s Development Officer;
- Writing, or contributing to publications which accompany arts-related events and activities;
- Arranging performances, artists, venues, security, catering and sale of tickets;
- Public Relations and Marketing activities through print and online media;
- Programming and booking performances and events, including arrangements for tours locally, nationally and abroad;
- Development of new projects and initiatives in consultation with arts professionals and key stakeholders (e.g. local authorities, local government and communities, venue directors and regional arts boards);
- Liaising with Centre management regarding venues, health and safety issues and building maintenance;
- Implementing and maintaining office and information systems;
- Providing administrative support to managers;
- Budgeting, monitoring of departmental expenditures and submissions of requisitions as well as expense reports;
- Preparing financial and narrative reports for the management team and donors.
- Minimum of three years of related experience;
- Diploma in a relevant field;
- Strong administrative abilities and an attention to detail;
- Relationship building and interpersonal skills;
- Problem solving skills, namely an ability to understand, articulate and structure solutions to needs;
- Communication skills: the ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English; fluency in other official South African languages is also desirable
- Ability to use a variety of technology with a high level of proficiency;
- Team player personality with the ability also to use own initiative and work independently;
- Demonstrable commitment to the Foundation, its vision, values and its approach.
Schedule and remuneration:
- The salary and benefits offered are market related
- The Arts & Culture Administrator will work standard office hours not exceeding 45 hours per week, based on daily requirements. Flexibility within the number of hours is, however, important as activities may take place during the evenings and on weekends
- The position will involve some travel, mostly within the local area
