Parliament's Portfolio and Select Committee on Women, Children and People with Disabilities will be hosting public hearings from 25-26 on South Africa's compliance with the relevant United Nations Convention.
Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee, Dorothy Ramodibe, says that, "We have invited stakeholders, the NGO's, our invitation is not limited."
Ramodibe argues that people with disabilities have been neglected for a very long time, adding that, “...we hope that this convention, you know, on the rights of persons with disabilities will be able to reach a target of two percent employment. I really regret to say that we have not even reached below one percent.”
