Nyanda Criticises Telecoms Costs

ICTs costs are still too high and possible collusion will have to be dealt with, says Communications Minister, Siphiwe Nyanda

Communications Minister, Siphiwe Nyanda, says information communication technologies (ICTs) costs are still too high and possible collusion will have to be dealt with.

Nyanda warned that if engagement with private telecommunications operators is not effective in bringing down costs, the government will have to resort to regulation and legislation.

He says that telecommunications has been on the agenda for some time, but intervention had not been effective. He further states that termination costs charged by cellphone operators for calls landing with another service provider are very high and it might be necessary to engage with them about this as well.
