NGOs Take Govt to Court Over ‘Intervention’

Eastern Cape NGOs plan to take government to court over confusion surrounding national government’s intervention in that province’s education department

Several NGOs in the Eastern Cape are taking the government to court in an attempt to quell the apparent confusion resulting from the national government’s intervention in the province’s education.

Save Our Schools and Community, coordinator, Nomalanga Mkhize, says that a lot of confusion about the powers and responsibilities of the national government in the province has been caused by the intervention.

In the same vein, Catholic Institute of Education spokesperson, Mark Potterton, points out that, “Unless the intervention was clarified the “denial of constitutional rights of pupils to education will persist with profound and long-term consequences”.
