NGO Calls for Action Following Trader’s Death

The Tshwane Barekisi Forum urges the government to take a decisive action against the Metro police officer who allegedly shot and killed an informal trader

The Tshwane Barekisi Forum has urged the government to take a decisive action against the Metro police officer who allegedly shot and killed an informal trader this month.

The Tshwane Barekisi Forum also called for the release of four informal traders accused of public violence committed in the incident.

Meanwhile Blessing Manale, spokesperson for the Tshwane Metro, who says that no police officers have been suspended following the incident, adds that, “… [Foster] Ribombo [the victim] had not been a licensed trader and that the city had an embargo on all informal trade licences. We are doing an impact study to determine how many hawkers the city can accommodate before we issue more licences.”
