The Endangered Wildlife Trust has launched a web-based toolkit to help ordinary South Africans understand environmental impact assessments (EIAs).
The toolkit uses flow charts and lists the contact details of each of the provincial environmental authorities. It also answers frequently asked questions related to exemptions from carrying out an EIA, not being consulted despite living adjacent to a project site, and being blocked by a developer from finding out more about a project.
Ultimately, the toolkit is intended to be a practical guide to EIAs, enabling civil society in general and affected parties in particular , to better participate in them.
