The People's Health Movement South Africa
The People's Health Movement South Africa (PHM-SA.org) will be hosting a public meeting on the rights and occupational safety of junior doctors.
The panel discussion and public debate will focus on the working conditions on interns and junior doctors in the South African health system.
The main speakers will include Dr Yumna Moosa. Moosa will draw her experience which recently went viral on Youtube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEHvY-M_7N0)
Dr Michael van Niekerk, the national Secretary General from JuDASA will reflect on the campaign towards successfully reducing junior doctors' working hours.
Both speakers will also discuss some of the current concerns of junior doctors which they are working on. Putting these experiences together, we would then like to have a discussion with the floor about how to defend and promote a rights-based culture in the clinical workplace; how to report abuse; how to gather evidence; and the risks and benefits of being a whistleblower.
Professor Leslie London of the School of Public Health & Family Medicine, University of Cape Town, and PHM steering committee member will chair the discussion.
If you are out of Cape Town you can also join via Skype.
Transport and Child Care will be provided upon request.
