Why Mobilise Towards Successful Teaching?

The current pass rates and throughput of the South African education system need to be addressed. Therefore, the objective of the 1st Annual National FET Conference 2013 is to be instrumental in decreasing the failure and dropout rates and consequently improve the pass and throughput rates in line with the vision of the National Development Plan.

The theme of the conference, ‘Motivating Towards Success’ has a holistic focus addressing upliftment, skills building, poverty alleviation and economic emancipation upon which I want to add ‘Learning Emancipation’.

Publicly and Privately Managed Schools for SA

The Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) is exploring the option of cultivating contract schools to boost the education system in South Africa.

The organisation states that publicly funded schools that are privately managed in South Africa’s education system could significantly benefit poor and failing pupils.

CDE executive director, Ann Bernstein, points out that, “Government provides funding and clearly defined goals for pupils and private providers to come up with innovative ways of delivering schooling to them.”

Simple, Early Triggers that Help Our Children to Learn

How can we fix our education system? That question preoccupies our national mind - and not without cause. We fail to prepare enough people for basic jobs, let alone to sustain a sophisticated knowledge economy. If that is the question, the inevitable answer is that we need good teachers, quality textbooks and enough time in the classroom. But what if we asked a slightly different question, namely ‘what needs to be done so that our children can learn’?
