NGOs: Learner Transport Claims a Lie

Civil society organisations have dismissed a claim by the departments of; - basic education and transport that 71 percent of pupils get state sponsored transport to school.
 
President of the National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), Basil Manuel, has described government’s claim as a ‘lie’ and a ‘complete fabrication’, adding that he would like to see how they came to that figure.
 

Adopt-a-School Foundation: Junior Bookkeeper

NYDA Introduces Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund

In the quest to address the challenge of youth unemployment and access to education, the National Youth Development Agency is introducing the Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund.

The R10 million is made available for financial assistants to youth in enabling them to pursue quality education in an institution of higher learning.

NYDA chairperson, Yershen Pillay, says applicants must be in their first year of study and that they must have achieved an average of 70 percent to be considered for the scholarship.

Anna Foundation: Educational Specialist

The Anna Foundation is a nonprofit organisation (NPO) working with children on farms in the Western Cape. Anna Foundation implements educational, life skills and sports programmes on these farms. Children attend the Foundation's after schools once they return to the farm from their day schools. The Anna Foundation trains and skills rural farm women to manage the daily running of the programmes. The Foundation currently works with 700 children and train 45 rural women.

Conclusive and reliable evidence on how many learners have been ‘under-educated’ is scarce, versus those that have a certifiable barrier to learning. The Western Cape Primary Science Programme (PSP) is a teacher in-service training and support organisation that has been working for more than twenty years to address the inequalities in education in South Africa.

The PSP seeks to appoint a Part-time (three days a week initially) Sales and Marketing Executive, based in Cape Town.

This is a fixed-term, six-month contract position with the possibility of extension dependent on success in the role.
