UN Women: Consultant - Rapporteuring Services

UN Women is the UN organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women works on several fronts towards ending violence against women and girls. This includes tackling its main root: gender inequality. Efforts are multiplied through advocacy campaigns and partnerships with governments, civil society and the UN system.

UN Women seeks the service of a Consultant to provide rapporteuring services for UN WOMEN for three workshops.

Govt to Amend Traditional Courts Bill

President Jacob Zuma this week confirmed that the government is looking at amending the controversial Traditional Courts Bill, which has been criticised for its potential to entrench royal and traditional authority at the expense of basic access to justice and women’s rights.

Women’s lobby groups and other civil society bodies, including the Congress of South African Trade Unions and the South African Communist Party, have denounced the bill which they described as unconstitutional.

HRW Calls for the Strengthening of ICC

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) says the member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) should use the upcoming review conference in Uganda to push forward justice for the worst international crimes.

In its 102-page report entitled, 'Making Kampala Count: Advancing the Global Fight Against Impunity at the ICC Review Conference', the rights body is also calling on member states to use preparations, conference discussions and pledges of greater support for the ICC to increase the likelihood that the most serious perpetrators will be held to account.
