Disabled Children Invisible and Marginalised

The State of the World's Children 2013 report states that disabled children are at greater risk of being poor, are least likely to receive an education and healthcare.

Released by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the report notes that children with disabilities are among the most marginalised and excluded in the world, often going unregistered at birth and facing bullying, discrimination and even murder.

Foundation to Help Burn Victim

A five-year-old girl who sustained horrific burns to her body last year will undergo the same high-tech skin transplant as Pippie Kruger, thanks to a donation from her organisation, the "Pippie's Gesiggie" Foundation.

Celiwe Maseko's dress caught alight when a burning match fell on it, and she suffered burns to her back, stomach and thighs.

The foundation says it will pay R240 600 for Celiwe's new skin, which, just like Pippie's, will be grown in a laboratory by Genzyme in Boston, Massachusetts.
