Founded in 1990 and Headquartered in New York, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) is a leading international human rights organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people who experience discrimination or abuse on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. IGLHRC’s goal is to build a strong global lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights movements.

The IGLHRC seeks to appoint a Grants Administrator for its work in Africa, based in Johannesburg.

This is a half-day contract position.

UWC Community Law Centre: Information Manager

The Community Law Centre, forming part of the Law Faculty at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), was established in 1990 and specialises in democratic values and human rights of South Africa's Constitution, emphasising children's rights, gender, local government and socio-economic rights.

The Centre seeks to appoint a dynamic Information Manager, based in Western Cape.

This is a one-year renewable contract position.

Much Work Needed on Gender Equality

Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini, says there is still much work to be done to realise gender equality.

“While much progress has been made in the fight for gender rights over the last 18 years, there is still much work to be done in the quest for gender equality,” Dlamini said during her address on the first day of the Nonprofit Organisations Summit held in Johannesburg.

A ‘Radical Mind Shift’ is Needed in the Count Down to 2015

Woman-power swept onto the Southern African scene in a visible way in 2012. First, Joyce Banda unexpectedly assumed the post as the first woman President of Malawi in April. She also has the distinction of being the first woman Southern African Development Community (SADC) head of state. Next, South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, worked her way through several barriers to become the first woman chair of the African Union Commission after a tough fight in July.
