SAFCEI: Operations Director

The Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute (SAFCEI) is a faith-based environment institute that raises awareness and empowers people of faith to care for the earth.

SAFCEI seeks to appoint a full-time Operations Director to work at its office in Westlake, Cape Town.

This is a permanent position following successful completion of an initial three-month trial period.

Environmental Monitoring Group: Bookkeeper / Financial Administrator

The Environmental Monitoring Group (EMG) is a nonprofit environmental organisation based in Cape Town.

EMG seeks to appoint a Bookkeeper/Financial Administrator, based in Observatory, Cape Town.

The person will ensure that all EMG’s financial transactions are recorded accurately and timeously, manage all receipts and payments from EMGs bank account, and will provide accurate and timeous reports to management so that the organisation can make sound financial decisions.

This is a full-time position starting as soon as possible or preferably by 15 October 2012.

WWF South Africa: Internal Communications Specialist - GCEI

The World Wide Fund for Nature –South Africa (WWF) is one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation and environmental organisations, with almost five million supporters and a global network active in more than 100 countries. The organisation’s mission is to stop the degradation of the earth's natural environment and to build a future in which we all live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

Forming Coalition to Protect Oceans

The World Bank is planning to propose a coalition of governments, global organisations and other groups to protect the oceans, aiming to raise US$1.5 billion in the next five years for the purpose.

The bank’s president, Robert Zoellick, points out  that the new partnership will bring together various groups to confront problems of over-fishing, marine degradation and loss of habitat.

"The world's oceans are in danger, and the enormity of the challenge is bigger than one country or organisation," he explains.

Govt Pushes for Environmental Compliance

The Department of Environmental Affairs is amending the National Environmental Management Act so that it could take the same enforcement action against state-owned enterprises as it did against private companies.

The department states that the amendment will enable criminal prosecutions to be brought against organs of state, in line with the constitutional principle that all people and entities are equal before the law.
