Swaziland Urged to Enact Sexual Offences Law

According to an article by Eddie Abner, the absence of a sexual offences law in Swaziland is said to be giving men a leeway to continue abusing women as they are aware that there is no mechanism that can be used to punish them.

Abner states that in its annual report, Women and the Law in Southern Africa (WLSA) disclosed that it attended to over 1 040 abuse cases, 460 maintenance cases were reported and 360 domestic violence cases in 2014.

Ilitha Labantu is a national NGO that deals with violence against women and children. Ilitha Labantu strives to end violence against women and children in disadvantaged communities (townships and rural areas). The organisation provide emotional support, practical advise, education and training for coping with addressing violence against women and children.

The Ondersteuningsraad (OSR) is a faith-based nonprofit organisation, welfare organisation that has 16 offices in four provinces. The organisation focuses on the rendering of social work services to protect vulnerable children against all forms of abuse through statutory intervention (children's court inquiries and foster care placements).  These services are rendered by professional social workers and auxiliary workers.

OSR seeks to appoint a full-time Auxiliary Worker, based in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.

Families South Africa (FAMSA) is a nonprofit organisation which believes in healthy relationships and well-functioning families as the key to the well-being of the community. FAMSA's focus areas are violence and trauma, HIV/AIDS, abusive relationships, poverty, women and children and relationship breakdown.

FAMSA Upington seeks to appoint a Financial Officer, based in Kimberly.

The Officer willo render support services to the Child Welfare South Africa Northern Cape Provincial Office.

Requirements:

Ugandan Cops Abuse Street Kids - HRW

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) says the Ugandan street children face constant abuse from police and government officials, who beat and extort bribes from them.

The organisation states that police as well as Kampala city officials detain street children after targeted roundups.

In its report entitled ‘Where Do You Want Us To Go?’ the organisation further states that police beat them with batons, whips and wires as punishment for vagrancy or to extort bribes as a condition for letting them go.

MOSAIC: Operations Manager - Wynberg

MOSAIC is a nonprofit organisation that enables abused youth and adults to heal and empower themselves in dealing with domestic violence and abuse. MOSAIC works in partnership with government and other service providers in communities in the Western Cape, and deliver a range of prevention and support services.

MOSAIC seeks to appoint a Programme Operations Manager, based in Wynberg, Cape Town.
