Jordan to Review Law on NGO Funding

Jordan is considering revisiting a controversial civil society law that local and international rights groups have criticised for taking too much control over the funding, registration and monitoring activities of NGOs.

The country’s parliament hastily endorsed the law last year, drawing the ire of the NGOs, which said they were not even consulted when the law was drafted.

Ivory Park Survey Reveals Many Energy Safety Challenges

An intervention survey conducted by the Paraffin Safety Association of Southern Africa (PASASA) shows that tightly packed dwellings and the widespread use of paraffin are a lethal combination in many informal settlements. This survey which covered a total of 2,047 households, 3, 764 learners, crèches and other institutions of importance unearthed the following challenges:

1. Some residents are not aware of the safest ways of using paraffin.
